The eldest of six children, Maria grew up in a loving family in Jacksonville NC. Her parents laid a strong foundation for orthodoxy by attending weekly church services at the Orthodox chapel on Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base, and they also traveled to Wilmington to attend church services here at Saint Nicholas and to participate in GOYA events. This is where she met her husband, Jim Stasios, and together they have two daughters. A graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville NC, Maria is a Registered Dietitian and a strong believer in the role good nutrition plays in our health.
Maria is a past president of the Parish Council, a former Sunday Church School teacher, youth advisor, "Daughters of Penelope" President and District Lodge Officer, and has enjoyed participating in and supporting the life of our Saint Nicholas Family. Maria is currently serving her second term as president of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, the first being 25 years ago during the 50th anniversary of our Parish. Philoptochos ("The Lovers of the Poor") is the philanthropic arm of the Church, and in many ways is the very heart and soul of our Christian mission. Caring for the needy has always been a priority for Maria. If it is something you feel strongly about as well, consider joining her in Philoptochos! Contact Maria for more information.
