Georgia was born in Wiesbaden, Germany to Mary Compos Marmaras and Basil G. Marmaras. While on a weekend visit from Ft. Bragg, her father visited a cousin in Wilmington who invited him to church and it was after the Divine Liturgy Basil met Mary. Georgia spent much of her early youth living with her grandparents Alex and Polly Compos, who were part of the original members of Saint Nicholas in 1943. Georgia has always had a strong affinity to the Saint Nicholas Family and longed for the day she would move to Wilmington. Many summers of visiting Wilmington came and went. Georgia attended Barbizon Fashion Merchandising School in Chevy Chase, MD and Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland earning a BS in Marketing. Georgia furthered her studies while living in Greece through a correspondence course at the University of Michigan and graduated after 4 years of intense study required to become a teacher of English in Greece. She opened a tutoring school while living in Lefkada, Greece and taught English to hundreds of students over 8-years. She is a mother of three lovely daughters and a grandmother to four of the "biggest loves of her life." After 50 years, her dream of moving to Wilmington transpired and the opportunity to work at her beloved Saint Nicholas became a reality.
